YouthUp Mobile Unit: Meeting Youth Where They Are

Detroit Phoenix Center is proud to introduce the YouthUp Mobile Unit—a new mobile outreach initiative designed to bring critical resources and compassionate support directly to youth across Detroit and beyond. This innovative unit helps bridge gaps in access by delivering services where they are needed most, supporting young people in their pursuit of stability and self-sufficiency.

We believe every young person deserves access to safety, support and opportunity. That’s why we are taking action to ensure young people experiencing housing insecurity or other barriers can still access the essential services they need to thrive.
A Mobile Crisis and Resource Center on Wheels
The YouthUp Mobile Unit is a 40-foot state-of-the-art motorcoach offering a range of wraparound services, all in one place. Inside the mobile unit, youth will find:
-
A private space for one-on-one therapy sessions, case management and counseling
-
A shower, kitchen and food pantry with rotating supplies
-
A clothing closet and essential hygiene products
-
A career center with resume support, interview prep and vocational training resources
-
Laptops, mobile hotspots and access to digital tools
-
A wellness area for basic medical care
-
A gaming zone that offers a safe place to unwind, connect and recharge
This mobile approach ensures that youth who may not have access to traditional service locations can still receive vital care and support—without delay and without judgment.

Rooted in Prevention, Built for Impact
The YouthUp Mobile unit focuses on prevention and early intervention. By showing up where youth already are—schools, community hubs, and areas with high need—we build trust, break stigma, and offer real-time solutions. This unit is more than just a vehicle; it is a symbol of hope, empowerment and progress.

“Our youth deserve more than access. They deserve to be seen, heard and supported right where they are,” said Courtney Smith, Founder and CEO of Detroit Phoenix Center. “The YouthUp Mobile Unit represents a new chapter in how we engage with young people who are often overlooked.”

From the Midwest to Detroit
After launching with a pilot tour in the Midwest—making stops in Chicago and South Bend, Indiana—the YouthUp Mobile unit arrived in Detroit, fully equipped and ready to serve. During the pilot, DPC distributed mental health resources, hygiene kits and fresh flowers to youth in need, partnering with other nonprofit organizations along the way.

The official launch was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Detroit PAL, where DPC was joined by local leaders, stakeholders and community members who believe in the mission of youth-centered outreach.

Join Us in Reaching More Youth
There are too many teens and young adults in the country who have experienced homelessness. Detroit Phoenix Center is working to change that—one young person at a time. The YouthUp Mobile Unit is a powerful step forward for the Detroit Phoenix Center in creating meaningful access to care not just in Detroit, but beyond.

We invite community members, businesses and policymakers to support this work through funding, partnerships and advocacy. Together, we can eliminate barriers and help every young person find their path forward.
